Washington DC – The Institute for Gulf Affairs (IGA) is publishing part one of its exclusive series (FIFA Kicks off Saudi Human Rights Nightmare), “Athletes Killed by the Saudi Government or facing death.”
The report lists footballers, athletes and coaches murdered by Saudi government forces, executed or tortured to death inside Saudi prisons. The second part lists athletes currently on Saudi death row, missing or imprisoned.
The purpose of report is to inform the Swiss government, the FIFA, European governments, officials, media, and relevant non-governmental actors ahead of FIFA’s plan to award the largest absolute Saudi monarchy the right to host the World Cup 2034. The report was provided to FIFA and its Council Members in advance.
The human rights situation in Saudi Arabia is the worst since its foundation in 1932.
FIFA has banned over 51 countries over much smaller violations than those detailed in this report, thus awarding the Saudi government the right to host World Cup 2034 violates FIFA’s own ethics codes, and practices. It also violates the Swiss Lex FIFA Anti-Corruption Law and US Federal Law.
FIFA is hiding behind the British law firm Clifford Chance and their fraudulent assessment of human rights conditions in Saudi Arabia. Clifford Chance assessment simply invalid because of Conflict of interests. The Saudi government and its institutions are clients of Clifford Chance and have paid millions of dollars for under these contracts. This alone provides strong basis for legal action against FIFA and Clifford Chance in Britain and Switzerland.
FIFA’s must halt the Saudi bid or may face unprecedented inquiries of corruption and bribes by Swiss and American prosecutors.
The coming parts of the series will include official Saudi racism, abhorrent status of women, religious oppression, government inference in sports, environment crimes, and massive land theft.
